Orbital Septum

The orbital septum that separates the orbit from the eyelids

os - orbital septum

la - levator aponeurosis

mct - medial canthal tendon

lct - lateral canthal tendon

The orbital septum represents the anteriormost layer of the orbital fascial septal system and is covered on its anterior surface with a thin layer of the galea aponeurotica which surrounds the frontalis muscle. It separates the orbit from the eyelid and lies immediately in front of the eyelid fat pockets and levator aponeurosis. It is a key landmark for the identification of the aponeurosis during ptosis surgery.
